Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Personnel from the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) have seized 400 kg of methamphetamine at a residence in the Fomento neighbourhood, Matola municipality, in Maputo province.<\/p>\n

The drug was buried in the yard of a house rented by Congolese citizens.<\/p>\n

Elino Panguana, SERNIC spokesman for Maputo province, said that the operation resulted from a tipoff by members of the public, who observed a number of strange containers being buried in the yard.<\/p>\n

A Congolese citizen, who was in the house at the time of the raid, was detained, but<\/p>\n

denied any knowledge of the origin of the drug, instead accusing an alleged employer currently in South Africa.<\/p>\n

SERNIC however claims that the accused, together with his alleged accomplice, rented the residence in order to hide the drug there, rather than to reside in it.<\/p>\n

Recurring international reports point to Mozambique as the corridor for drug trafficking, with Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Maputo (including the country\u2019s capital) leading the statistics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
