Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique is expected to reach the peak of the third wave of Covid-19, currently dominated by the delta variant, within three weeks, said Institute of Health (INS) director Ilesh Jani.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe third wave started at the end of June, beginning of July, so if we are going to see, if we expect this positive effect of the measures to start happening within two, three weeks, then we might peak at that time,\u201d Jani said in an interview reproduced on Friday by weekly Savana.<\/p>\n

The measures that the Mozambican government has imposed against the third wave may take effect in at least 15 days, or up to a maximum of 24 days, since the virus has an incubation period of 14 days, explained the director of the INS.<\/p>\n

Ilesh Jani said the peak of the third wave would not occur at the same time across the country, but in the provinces where it first broke out namely Tete, in the central region, and the Greater Maputo area, in the south.<\/p>\n

The INS director noted that Mozambique is currently at level 4 of the Covid-19 pandemic, just one away from the highest transmission maximum, which shows the severity of the pandemic in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat may result is level five, which is a high transmission level, where more restrictive measures may be required for pandemic control. That is what may happen if there is no change in the way the virus is transmitted today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mozambique records a total of 1,500 deaths from Covid-19 and 126,391 cases, 76% of which have recovered from the disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
