Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mia Couto Literary Prize, an initiative of Cornelder de Moc\u0327ambique (CdM) in partnership with the Kulemba Literary Association, was launched on Friday, June 2, in Beira. The creation of this Award, which will be annual, is part of the celebrations of our 25th anniversary.<\/p>\n

The representative of the Minister of Culture and Tourism, the Director of the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries, Matilde Muocha, was who proceeded to the official launch of the Mia Couto Literary Prize, emphasizing that the Prize now launched is a sample of what \u201cthe civil society actors, in partnership with private entities\u201d can do for the development of the country, in the specific case of Mozambican Literature.<\/p>\n

She thanked Cornelder de Moc\u0327ambique and the Kulemba Association for the initiative, as well as the writer Mia Couto, for having accepted to be the Prize\u2019s patron.<\/p>\n

Our Deputy Executive Director, Anto\u0301nio Libombo, said that the prize fits in the framework of the social responsibility of CdM that in this 2023 completes 25 years of management of the Port of Beira. He thanked the Kulemba Association for embarking together on this project and guaranteed that the Mia Couto Literary Prize will be implemented, annually, for at least the \u201cnext five years\u201d.<\/p>\n

The President of the Kulemba Association, Dany Wambire, thanked his \u201ctrustworthy partner, Cornelder de Moc\u0327ambique\u201d, for once again accepting to associate himself to an initiative that will bring added value to Literature in the country, for \u201cit intends to stimulate the literary production of quality in Mozambique\u201d.<\/p>\n

Wambire said that the Mia Couto Literary Award will distinguish \u201cthe best works published annually\u201d and \u201cwill have two categories, namely prose and poetry, with one work to be awarded in each category, and the best works will receive a cash prize of 400 thousand meticais\u201d.<\/p>\n

Each year the Award will distinguish works in Portuguese language, published by Mozambican authors in the previous year, and for this first edition, exceptionally, books published in 2021 and 2022 will be accepted.<\/p>\n

The registration for the first edition of the Prize will end on July 5, the birthday of its patron, Mia Couto, who was at the launching ceremony and was honoured to have been invited to name the Prize.<\/p>\n
