Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>An investigating judge at the Provincial Judicial Court of Manica on Tuesday decided to exercise the maximum degree of coercion against the two foreign nationals found in possession of an unusually large weapons stash last week.<\/p>\n

Portuguese citizen Joa\u0303o Moreira da Cruz and Zimbabwean national Gert Andrew Naupe will await trial in preventive detention.<\/p>\n

A request for the release of the defendants on a \u2018Term of Identity and Residence\u2019 basis was refused.<\/p>\n

Under Mozambican criminal law, defendants under \u2018Term of Identity and Residence\u2019 are obliged to regularly present themselves to the authorities (court, police station) to confirm with the relevant documents their identity as well as their current place of residence.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Moreira Da Cruz is the manager of the restaurant \u2018O Jardim\u2019 and Gert Andrew Naupe is director of Mozbife and DECA, companies operating in the farming and livestock sector.<\/p>\n

Both defendants reportedly claimed before the investigating judge that the weapons found in their possession were intended for individual protection.<\/p>\n
