Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>President Filipe Nyusi has sent a message to the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, conveying solidarity with Pope Francis, who has recently undergone surgery, and hopes for his speedy recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this time of concern, we want to express our solidarity with the Holy Father,\u201d the message reads, adding wishes for a \u201d fast and full recovery\u201d from his abdominal surgery in Rome\u2019s Gemelli hospital on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is how we join you, the Catholic faithful and other solitary souls from around the world, praying for his recovery in the hope that the Holy Father will soon be able to continue his mission of evangelization,\u201d President Nyusi writes.<\/p>\n

Pope Francis, 86 years old, is \u201cwell, awake and conscious\u201d, according to the surgeon who operated on him, Sergio Alfieri. The surgery lasted three hours and proceeded without complications.<\/p>\n

The leader of the Catholic Church is expected to remain in hospital for \u201cfive to seven days\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

The Vatican had previously announced the cancellation of the Pope\u2019s agenda until June 18.<\/p>\n
