Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>In a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in Mozambique\u2019s capital, Maputo, President Nyusi hailed El-Sisi\u2019s African tour, saying it reflects Egypt\u2019s deep keenness to support its African brothers. Nyusi also praised El-Sisi\u2019s historic visit to Mozambique, the first such visit by an Egyptian president, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said in a statement.<\/p>\n

President Nyusi also expressed his aspiration to strengthen economic cooperation with Egypt and encourage Egyptian investment in his country.<\/p>\n

For his part, El-Sisi highlighted the broad horizon for economic cooperation with Mozambique and stressed the need to boost trade exchange between the two countries.<\/p>\n

El-Sisi also underlined the mutual keenness to increase the presence of Egyptian companies in Mozambique and encourage new investments in the fields of infrastructure development, agriculture, fish farming and health.<\/p>\n

The Egyptian president also stressed that they would continue providing support to Mozambique to build civilian and military capacity.<\/p>\n

Regional issues<\/b><\/p>\n

The discussion between El-Sisi and Nyusi touched on a number of regional issues, especially the Sudanese crisis.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the two leaders agreed to intensify political consultation and coordination on urgent African issues, including developments in conflict hotspots across the continent.<\/p>\n

They also agreed to coordinate their response to the repercussions of various global crises on African development, especially in light of Mozambique\u2019s election to as a member of the UN Security Council 2023-2024.<\/p>\n

The presidents also discussed deepening security cooperation, including the exchange of information to counter terrorism and extremist thought in Africa.<\/p>\n

This aims to help achieve security and stability required for development in the continent, especially in the eastern and southern African regions, the presidents agreed.<\/p>\n

In this regard, Nyusi hailed Egypt\u2019s religious institutions\u2019 role in countering the extremist thought and spreading the moderate Islam worldwide, including in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

In a press conference following their meeting, El-Sisi invited Nyusi to visit Egypt.<\/p>\n

Africa tour<\/b><\/p>\n

Egypt\u2019s president arrived on Friday in Mozambique on the last leg of his African tour that included Angola and Zambia, to push economic ties and continental integration.<\/p>\n

During the tour, El-Sisi attended the 22nd Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Governments Summit in Zambia\u2019s Lusaka on Thursday, where he handed over the rotating presidency of COMESA to Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.<\/p>\n

In a speech at the summit, El-Sisi urged member states of COMESA to exert more efforts to achieve regional integration in order to address the current challenges.<\/p>\n
