Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The German government on Monday provided another million euros to support the fight against the new coronavirus in Mozambique, at a time when the country is experiencing a worsening of cases, deaths and hospitalisations in the third wave.<\/p>\n

With the additional amount made available on Monday, Germany\u2019s contribution to Mozambique to combat the pandemic has risen to \u20ac19.5 million, the German embassy said in a statement sent to the media.<\/p>\n

The amount will serve to support measures to prevent and manage the adverse effects of Covid-19. The funds will also be used for awareness campaigns about Covid-19, equipping municipalities with hygiene and protection items to prevent the risk of infection in public places and support campaigns against domestic violence in the municipalities of the provinces of Sofala, in the centre of the country, and Inhambane, in the south.<\/p>\n

The third wave of Covid-19 declared in July in Mozambique, is the deadliest, with the number of cases and hospitalisations rising every day, putting pressure on the country\u2019s health system.<\/p>\n

Mozambique has a cumulative total of 1,613 deaths from Covid-19 and 132,452 cases, 77% of which have recovered from the disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
