Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The government has been taking regulatory measures to remove barriers to investment in Mozambique\u2019s extractive sector in order to raise its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) to 16% by 2030.<\/p>\n

One of the measures that the executive decided to implement in this regard is the establishment of the Kimberley Process Management Unit, which is responsible for managing security procedures and internal controls in the trading of precious metals and gems.<\/p>\n

This information was shared yesterday by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, representing the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, at the \u2018Energy Mineral Resources as a Vector for Global Economic Sustainability\u2019 international conference.<\/p>\n

Minister Tonela noted that there have been yearly increases in the contribution of gold production and export and precious stones to state revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis sector should contribute more to boost Mozambique\u2019s socio-economic development, as there is still a lot of fiscal space to be explored,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

But he added that: \u201cIn our view, taxation should be carried out in such a way as not to overburden companies, but also to ensure that they assume their responsibility in the pursuit of sustainability and equity.\u201d<\/p>\n
