Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The 15th meeting of the Permanent Joint Commission on Defence and Security, intended to improve bilateral cooperation relations between Mozambique and Malawi in the fight against cross-border crimes, begins in Blantyre today.<\/p>\n

The meeting of defence and security personnel from the two neighbouring countries aims to identify new action strategies to respond to the current security challenges facing them.<\/p>\n

Continuing terrorist activity in some parts of Cabo Delgado province are on the agenda proposed by Mozambique and the Malawian counterparts, focused on tightening the noose on illegal immigration and human trafficking.<\/p>\n

The ministerial meeting will be co-chaired by Mozambican Defence Minister Cristo\u0301va\u0303o Chume and Interior Minister Arse\u0301nia Massingue, and the Malawian Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ngoma.<\/p>\n

Meeting in Blantyre, the parties will also assess the degree of implementation of the decisions on defence, public and state security taken at last year\u2019s session in Maputo.<\/p>\n

For the Mozambican high commissioner in Malawi, Elias Zimba, the existence of this joint defence and security committee and the holding of permanent meetings is crucial for the security of the two states, given the multifaceted manifestations that jeopardise their security.<\/p>\n

The three-day meeting starts with a technical meeting, the adoption of activity plans to be implemented from now on, among other issues affecting the defence and security of the two southern African countries.<\/p>\n
