The practice is widespread in the administrative post of Marangira, in Marrupa district, an area with great potential for hunting and tourism, said the head of the Marangira administrative post, Agostinho Saize.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen tourists come here, they find the water poisoned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As well as decimating river species and potentially reducing tourism in the reserve, the poachers\u2019 actions threaten public health, as fish and water are used to satisfy the needs of the local population.<\/p>\n

The hydrographic network in Marrupa district comprises numerous rivers and swamps, concentrated around the Lugenda river, which borders the districts of Mavago to the north, and the Messalo river, which crosses the district in the south.<\/p>\n
