Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican publicly-owned electricity company, EDM, on Friday reported that a major breakdown has cut off power to all of northern Mozambique and much of the central province of Zambezia.<\/p>\n

According to an EDM press release, the break down occurred on the power line from Chimuara, on the north bank of the Zambezi River, to the town of Mocuba in Zambezia.<\/p>\n

Over a million EDM clients found themselves deprived of electricity. Power from the EDM grid was cut to all three northern provinces (Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado), and to the districts in the central and northern parts of Zambezia.<\/p>\n

Cabo Delgado and Nampula were able to switch to the floating power station off the coast of Nacala, which is owned by the Turkish company, Karpower.<\/p>\n

However, EDM said nothing about restoring power to Niassa or Zambezia.<\/p>\n

The release added that EDM technical teams are on the ground, seeking to identify the cause of the breakdown, in order to re-establish the normal supply of electricity to the affected areas as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n
