Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>At least 26 students from Eduardo Silva Nihia Secondary School boarding centre in Malema district, Nampula province, have tested positive for Covid-19, according to sources in the health sector, Ikweli reports.<\/p>\n

Sources indicate that the epidemiological situation there is not the best, inferring that the same scenario is repeated to some degree in several other schools in the province, especially those in the main urban centres and towns.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people have coronavirus problems here at the boarding school, but even so, some keep going to school,\u201d one student, who wished to remain anonymous, says.<\/p>\n

The district administrator of Malema, Morchido Momade, confirmed the existence of these cases, pointing out that \u201ccases have skyrocketed. At the moment, in the entire district we have 60 positive cases, of which 26 are from Eduardo Silva Nihia Secondary School\u201d.<\/p>\n

Momade explained that, in order to stop the spread of the disease, all students in the school are staying at home, and that the school has been disinfected according to sanitary protocols.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe took the step of isolating everyone who tested positive. All of them have mild symptoms,\u201d Momade said. \u201cWe had three cases with severe symptoms, and they were transferred to the city of Nampula, where one died,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Momade said that guidance was being awaited, pending a decision on the suspension of face-to-face classes in Malema district.<\/p>\n

Another boarding centre with positive Covid-19 cases is that of the L\u00fario University, in Marrere, on the outskirts of Nampula. It is not known for sure how many cases there are there, but students are complying with home isolation.<\/p>\n

A source from the Provincial Health Service of Nampula told Ikweli that \u201cthere are many cases spread across educational institutions in the province\u201d, and that the protocol regarding these situations should be activated.<\/p>\n

Ikweli has learned that, at city level, private schools have also been reporting positive cases of the disease in a trend which worries the health sector, especially because the protocol that dictates the closure of establishments in these circumstances is not being followed.<\/p>\n
