Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican Tax Authority (AT) announced on Monday that, in the first half of the year, it carried out 580 seizures of illegal merchandise throughout the country.<\/p>\n

402 of the seizures were made in the south of the country, 82 in the central region, and 86 in the northern provinces.<\/p>\n

According to AT spokesperson Fernando Tinga, with these seizures the Mozambican state could obtain revenue of 70.2 million meticais (about 1.1 million US dollars, at the current exchange rate).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe customs value of the merchandise involved in all these seizures is estimated at 120.4 million meticais, and of this sum it is expected to obtain 70.2 million meticais for the State\u2019s coffers\u201d, said Tinga, speaking to reporters after presenting two containers full of seized merchandise.<\/p>\n

The figures are considered positive, when compared with the same period of 2022. There was a growth in seizures of about 30 per cent.<\/p>\n

The majority of the seizures were of goods that had evaded fiscal stamps. \u201cMost of the seizures concern goods that shold have been sealed with fiscal stamps\u201d, said Tinga. \u201cWe are talking about alcoholic drinks and tobacco products, which account for 63 per cent of all seizures\u201d.<\/p>\n
