Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Health Armindo Tiago revealed in Maputo this Wednesday that the coverage rate of essential health services in Mozambique is below the needs of the population, while considering the government\u2019s efforts towards achieving universal health coverage in the country satisfactory.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rate of coverage in essential services in our country is 47%, while the percentage of Mozambican families that dedicate more than 10% of their income to health is 1.6%,\u201d Tiago said at the opening ceremony of the high-level dialogue on health sector financing.<\/p>\n

The health minister noted that, although these figures demonstrate that Mozambique outperforms other countries in the region, \u201cit is recognized that it is below the global average\u201d.<\/p>\n

The minister listed some challenges that still prevail in the health sector, where resolution involves particularly high costs, namely in chronic cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s meeting was attended by other representatives from the ministries of Health and of Economy and Finance, the Assembly of the Republic, the private sector, civil society and cooperation partners.<\/p>\n
