Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Maritime Transport Institute (ITRANSMAR), in the central Mozambican province of Sofala, has suspended navigation along the Beira city coastline due to high winds with gusts of up to 70 km\/hour, in the context of a cold front<\/p>\n

The winds are also generating waves of up to five metres, constituting a danger to navigation, said the ITRANSMAR coordinator, Catarina Vasco, cited in Friday\u2019s issue of the Maputo daily \u201cNoti\u0301cias.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe suspension of navigation was well received and respected by fishermen and transporters of people and cargo, in order to avoid possible accidents\u201d, she said, adding that \u201call the coastal communities were immediately warned when the cold front was noticed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vasco stressed that all boats are banned from putting out to sea. The cold front, she explained, is associated with the severe winter, especially in Beira city, where the minimum temperatures are between seven and 12 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a natural phenomenon. We cannot avoid it, although it complicates my business, since I will have to pay employees without working. We don\u2019t know when we can resume work\u201d, said maritime transport operator Felix Joaquim, who employs 16 workers.<\/p>\n
