Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Ireland\u2019s Ta\u0301naiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Michea\u0301l Martin TD, has on Thursday announced the allocation of \u20ac3.5 million in funding to strengthen education systems, improve access and provide quality education for children in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

So important that children everywhere have the opportunity of a quality education.<\/p>\n

Delighted to announce \u20ac3.5m in new funding for education in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The Ta\u0301naiste announced the funding during a visit to the \u201c01 de Junho\u201d primary school in Inhambane province, Mozambique, which received support from the Education Sector Support Fund. Ireland has been working in Inhambane province for over 26 years.<\/p>\n

The Ta\u0301naiste said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted to announce this funding of \u20ac3.5 million to the Education Sector Support Fund in Mozambique. Education is the bedrock of societies and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs in Ireland, education is highly valued in Mozambique and a key pillar for the country\u2019s further socio-economic development. Considered investment in education at a crucial point in Ireland\u2019s history is the foundation of our current economic prosperity. Ireland is proud to partner with Mozambique to improve access and quality education for children around the country. Girls\u2019 education and empowerment are essential to achieve greater social mobility, reduce poverty and inequality.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ireland\u2019s mission strategy for Mozambique 2020-2024 underscores the significance of strengthening systems for quality education to reach those furthest behind first. Between 2020 and 2022, the Embassy of Ireland provided \u20ac13.5 million for Education in Mozambique through the Education Sector Support Fund, known as FASE from its Portuguese acronym.<\/p>\n

This funding of \u20ac3.5 million will be channelled through FASE. FASE includes financial contributions from ten donors (including Global Programme for Education and the World Bank) to support effective implementation of the country\u2019s 2020-2029 Education Strategic Plan (PEE).<\/p>\n

Ireland also provides support to the UN Agencies and Civil Society for education in emergency projects in the North of Mozambique, and education initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education and prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) in targeted schools.<\/p>\n

Through the Ireland Fellows Programme, Ireland supports students from Mozambique each year to study at Master\u2019s level in universities across Ireland.<\/p>\n
