Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Fishing has been banned in lakes Chiu\u0301ta, Chirua and Amaramba in Niassa province due to the outbreak of Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome (EUS), also known as fish disease.<\/p>\n

According to the district director of economic activities in Mecanhelas, Armando Maulana, samples have already been collected and sent to Maputo for laboratory analyses.<\/p>\n

In the case of aquaculture, EUS can kill 100% of stocks if the fish cultivated are among the 100 species susceptible.<\/p>\n

It was discovered in Japan in 1971 and has been identified in various parts of the world, including the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region.<\/p>\n

Its presence in Mozambique was confirmed in 2021 from samples taken from fish in the wild in the central province of Manica.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough it is a disease that cannot be transmitted to humans, it is advisable, however, to cook fish from endemic areas well, with or without red spots,\u201d the government recommends.<\/p>\n
