Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Casinos operating in Mozambique paid more than 207 million meticais (around US$3.2 million at current exchange rates) in taxes to the state in the first half of this year, according to data provided by the General Gaming Inspectorate (IGJ). Taxes from this sector this year are expected to exceed the 328 million meticais paid in 2022.<\/p>\n

There are currently seven casinos in Mozambique, two in the city of Maputo, while Matola, Beira, Nampula City, Pemba and Tete each have one. In addition, there is a gaming machine room in Beira, while another casino is expected to come into operation in the city of Pemba soon.<\/p>\n

Deputy General Inspector of the IGJ, Maca\u0301rio Gusse, says that it is easier to control the amounts collected by the casinos, as the IGJ settles the tax in-house, with designated inspectors controlling the entire process from opening time until the establishment closes.<\/p>\n

Quoted by the newspaper Domingo, Gusse said there was no limit on the amounts staked in these places, while at the same time stressing that \u201cit is necessary to respect the limits established by the law to prevent and combat money laundering and financing of terrorism\u201d. He did not however specify any exact amount.<\/p>\n
