Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Calvinia Regional Court, in South Africa\u2019s Northern Cape province, sentenced Lewis Johnson (69) to an effective fifteen (15) years imprisonment for drug dealing. The sentencing took place on Thursday, 27 July 2023.<\/p>\n

Lewis Johnson, a Mozambican national was arrested during a Police COVID 19 roadblock.<\/p>\n

Police stopped a White LWB van and requested a permit from the driver since it was stage level 5. The driver could not produce the necessary permit and members continued to search the said vehicle, on searching the vehicle Police discovered drugs, Tik (crystal methamphetamine) weighting 12.6 Kg with an estimated street value of R 3 971 268. The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team successfully investigated the matter resulting in a conviction.<\/p>\n

The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the sentence, the Provincial Head of Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Steve Mabuela \u2018the sentence will definitely send the necessary message out there, that drug dealing is bad and destroying the Country\u2019s youth\u2019 concluded the General.<\/p>\n
