Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Monapo district in Nampula province expects to harvest around 6,000 tons of cotton of different varieties in the 2022-2023 campaign.<\/p>\n

This represents an increase of more than 500 tons compared to last year, when the region produced 5,448 tons.<\/p>\n

The head of the division of agriculture and fisheries in the district service of Economic Activities in Monapo, Moise\u0301s Camoto, explained that the production of the so-called \u201cwhite gold\u201d involves more than 16,000 producers.<\/p>\n

Camoto noted that Monapo has six cotton production units aggregating the 142 markets mapped for this campaign.<\/p>\n

Cotton producers in Monapo and throughout the province of Nampula have been abandoning cotton production in favour of food, but cotton companies and the government are encouraging peasant families to return to the production of the cash crop.<\/p>\n
