Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The last five pupils of the 18 admitted to the Central Hospital of Beira, centre of Mozambique, after falling from the second floor at Mateus Sansa\u0303o Muthemba Secondary School, have been discharged, a source from the establishment told Lusa on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to Rotafina Wilson, the school\u2019s head mistrsss, the five pupils were part of the group of 24 who were assisted in the hospital last Tuesday after the stairs collapsed, 18 of whom were hospitalised, some in serious condition.<\/p>\n

According to the school, around 16:00 on 1 August, as the children were descending the stairs at the end of classes, one of the students closed one of the gates and held the two corners of the railing to prevent others from descending, which created congestion and a consequent incident, with dozens of classmates falling.<\/p>\n

The head mistress added that the school management, through the teachers, is assisting the students, given the panic that ensued.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have teachers who are providing psycho-pedagogical assistance to pupils, and we have a teacher here who is also a psychologist and is providing therapeutic assistance to the little ones because of the panic,\u201d explained Rotafina Wilson, adding that the 24 pupils will be able to take the missing tests during the next week, after recovery.<\/p>\n

Nearly 30 pupils at Sansa\u0303o Muthemba Secondary School suffered various injuries, some in serious condition, after a fall from the second floor outside the classrooms on 1 August, said Ana Tambo, clinical director of Beira Central Hospital.<\/p>\n

She explained that some students were admitted to that health unit unconscious, others with head traumas, after the fall nine of which with severe head trauma.<\/p>\n
