Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Mozambican Basketball Federation, Roque Sebastia\u0303o, today announced his resignation from the position he had held since 2019. The resignation comes after the problems that affected the national women\u2019s team in the Afrobasket 2023 tournament, where the athletes claimed payment of subsidies from a fund managed by the Secretariat of State for Sports (SED) through the Sports Promotion Fund.<\/p>\n

The management of funds arising from the agreement with TotalEnergies by the Sports Promotion Fund rather than the Mozambican Basketball Federation, the entity that manages basketball, never attained consensus with the government.<\/p>\n

Two years ago, the Secretary of State for Sport even indirectly suggested the president of the Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB) might resign at a press conference convened to announce that the government would support the national team\u2019s trip to Yaounde\u0301, Cameroon, for Afrobasket 2021.<\/p>\n

Sebastia\u0303o was elected president of the Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB) on October 5, 2019 for the 2019-2023 quadrennium.
