Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) have arrested more than 700 people across the country in the last week for violating the country\u2019s borders, the security force announced today.<\/p>\n

According to the PRM\u2019s operational balance sheet for the period from August 5th to 11th, the situation in the country remained \u201crelatively calm and controlled\u201d, with 703 people being arrested, in coordination with the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), for border violations, and 312 for illegal immigration, in addition to 318 for committing common crimes.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican police have in the past been recording more than 600 arrests for border violations every week, but without reference to nationality. The country has land borders to the north with Tanzania, to the northwest with Malawi and Zambia, to the west with Eswatini and to the south with South Africa.<\/p>\n

In addition to the total of 1,333 arrested in the space of a week, firearms were seized throughout the country, such as machine guns, various types of ammunition, various amounts of drugs and 30 motorcycles, among other items.<\/p>\n

In the same period, the PRM reports having inspected 88,041 vehicles across the country, applying 3,701 fines and arresting 22 drivers for illegal driving and 68 for active corruption.<\/p>\n

On the roads in the week in question, seven road accidents considered \u201crelevant\u201d were recorded, causing 15 deaths and 11 serious injuries, against 10 in the same period of 2022.<\/p>\n
