Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>An alleged attempt to steal fuel from a deactivated pipeline of state company Petr\u00f3leos de Mo\u00e7ambique (Petromoc) in the port of Nacala, northern Mozambique, has caused a spill, the chairman of the company, Helder Chambisse told Lusa.<\/p>\n

\u201cApparently, there was vandalism in a pipeline that had been deactivated for several years, which resulted in a spill of unused \u2018fuel oil\u2019,\u201d Chambisse said.<\/p>\n

He said that the company is committed to collecting the liquid spilt to prevent damage to the environment, adding that an investigation is underway.<\/p>\n

At the end of last month, an attempt to steal fuel resulted in 5,000 litres of diesel being spilt into the Pemba bay, the Ministry for Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) said.<\/p>\n

The statement said that the fuel spill directly affected an area of 3,000 square metres.<\/p>\n

MIREME also said that the marine fauna in Pemba bay had not been contaminated by the spilt fuel, pointing to smuggling as the cause of the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
