Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s ambassador to the United Nations, Pedro Comissa\u0301rio, says it is crucial that the international community recognizes the need for substantial resources to help resolve conflicts and strengthen global peacekeeping capabilities.<\/p>\n

This is one of the central positions that the country will present during the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), an event in which Mozambique will be represented by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe came to defend the peaceful and negotiated resolution of conflicts, with greater resources allocated to peace and security issues and an end to wars, as a way of boosting development,\u201d Comissa\u0301rio says.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Mozambique intends to address the current political crises in Africa, with a special focus on the coups d\u2019e\u0301tat that have occurred in some countries on the continent.<\/p>\n

For Radio Mozambique\u2019s international policy analyst, Calton Cadeado, the world should not ignore the crises in Africa, and Mozambique\u2019s position on the matter is respectable, given the urgency of the issues at stake.<\/p>\n

Another topic under debate at the UN General Assembly will be issues linked to climate change, with particular emphasis on the need to mobilize resources to achieve the agreements outlined in Paris and Egypt.<\/p>\n

The UN General Assembly also has on its agenda the debate on the fight against tuberculosis, universal coverage of health services, prevention, preparedness and response to pandemics.<\/p>\n

As part of the biggest UN event, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, will participate in a high-level meeting this Monday to assess the progress made towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n
