Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, appealed for North American investment in the country in New York on Tuesday, emphasising the opportunities in areas such as agriculture, fishing or tourism.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are welcome, I invite you to come,\u201d the Mozambican head of state said at the \u2018Africa Investment Luncheon Summit \u2018 which brought together US businesspeople, politicians, administrators and personalities with the aim, according to the organisation, of \u201d linking African industries with global investors\u201d and creating \u201copportunities for economic growth and development\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Mozambique we have three ports built \u2013 Maputo, Beira and Nacala -and we can have still more. Nacala is the deepest, and they are connected by corridors,\u201d Nyusi detailed to the meeting organized by the North American National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) in partnership with the President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, who was also present, together with the Prime Minister of Lesotho, Sam Matekane.<\/p>\n

The leaders of the three African countries are in New York for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which started on Monday.<\/p>\n

The Africa Investment Luncheon Summit , which brought together investors and personalities with African roots, was aimed at trying to attract the attention of North American decision-makers, with Filipe Nyusi listing mining extraction and electricity production in addition to agriculture, fishing and tourism as among the opportunities.<\/p>\n

In a logic of regional integration, the Mozambican head of state recalled that the country already has logistical corridors connecting ports in the Indian Ocean to the interior of the African continent and neighbouring countries, giving Malawi as an example, since the inauguration of the 900-kilometre Nacala corridor, 250 kilometres of which cross the neighbouring country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe already have structures connecting our countries\u201d President Nyusi highlighted.<\/p>\n

Regarding these connections, the President of Malawi explained that, to facilitate trade, his government is developing a single border control post regime with neighbouring Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.<\/p>\n

Lazarus Chakwera, who also co-organized the event, highlighted the \u201ccreative potential\u201d of the continent and pointed out that \u201ceducation [of youth] is the key to the development\u201d of Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfrica is your motherland, and there is nothing more important than investing in our land and making it better,\u201d he appealed to the meeting.<\/p>\n
