Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The entire collection of the Museum collection of Chai, in Macomia district, was destroyed by terrorists.<\/p>\n

The Museum Director believes in the restoration of the historic site, which was the target of several terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

He hadn\u2019t seen the Museum for around one year. The director and other Museum workers fled Chai in the end of June 2020.<\/p>\n

He expresses his shock at the sight of his Museum completely destroyed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe footage, the photographs, of the liberation war, of the fighters, all the collection we had \u2026we lost everything,\u201d he tells TVM.<\/p>\n

The Chai Museum collection included the first weapons used in the liberation war and the first flag hoisted by the Mozambique Liberation Front in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).<\/p>\n

The director of the Chai Museum recounts how he fled the village (\u201con the 28th\u201d) and managed to reach Muambula, four days later, with around \u201c60 to 70 people\u201d. He says he then found transportation to Muidumbe district headquarters and, from there, went to Mueda.<\/p>\n

Other infrastructure in the village has been destroyed. TVM footage shows a health post and the Frelimo party headquarters.<\/p>\n

Chai is known is the place where \u201cthe first shot\u201d of the liberation struggle against Portuguese colonialism was fired .<\/p>\n
