Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat (STAE), in the central Mozambican province of Zambe\u0301zia, started to place, during the weekend, voting material in the province\u2019s seven municipalities for the municipal elections due to be held on 11 October .<\/p>\n

Zambe\u0301zia, the country\u2019s second largest constituency after the neighbouring northern province of Nampula, has registered 406,405 voters who will be expected on polling day at 92 polling stations.<\/p>\n

There will be 561 polling stations staffed by 3,297 officials, 1,683 of whom were nominated by the three main political parties with parliamentary seats \u2013 the ruling Frelimo party, and the two main opposition forces, Renamo, and the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM). The remaining 2,244 polling station staff were selected through public tender.<\/p>\n

The provincial capital, Quelimane city, has the largest number of polling stations \u2013 180 \u2013 and registered 130,691 voters. It is followed by Mocuba with 119 stations and 86,669 registered voters and Guru\u0301e\u0300 with 88 stations, and 64,210 voters.<\/p>\n

Maganja da Costa has the fewest polling stations, with only 20,699 voters, giving it 27 polling stations.<\/p>\n

There are 198 seats up for election in the Zambezia municipal assemblies. 40 of these are in Quelimane, 39 each in Mocuba and Guru\u0301e\u0300, 21 each in Alto Molo\u0301cue\u0300, Milange and Morrumbala, and only 17 in Maganja da Costa.<\/p>\n

The 198 seats are disputed by four political parties (Frelimo, Renamo, MDM, and New Democracy), the Democratic Alliance Coalition, and two independent groups, namely the Association for Child and Youth Development in the Community (ACRIAJUDA) and the Citizens of Mozambique Association (CIDADA\u0303OS).<\/p>\n
