Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Filipe Nyusi said on Tuesday that the electoral campaign for the local elections on 11 October is taking place \u201cin an orderly environment\u201d, calling for \u201cprovocations\u201d to be avoided during the \u201cvote hunt\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe electoral campaign has been conducted in an orderly atmosphere in all 65 municipalities,\u201d said Nyusi.<\/p>\n

Nyusi was speaking at a meeting with supporters of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), the ruling party of which he is president, in the city of Beira, in the centre of the country.<\/p>\n

He called on Frelimo supporters to avoid getting involved in acts of \u201cprovocation\u201d.<\/p>\n

More than 11,500 candidates from 11 political parties, three coalitions of parties and eight citizens\u2019 groups are involved in the election campaign for the sixth Mozambican local elections on 11 October.<\/p>\n

Around 8.7 million Mozambican voters are registered, below the initial projection of 9.8 million voters, according to previous data from the National Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n

Mozambican voters will choose 65 new mayors on 11 October, including in 12 new municipalities, which join 53 existing ones.<\/p>\n

In the 2018 local elections, Frelimo won in 44 of the 53 municipalities and the opposition in just nine \u2013 Renamo in eight and MDM in one.<\/p>\n
