Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairperson of Mozambique\u2019s National Elections Commission (CNE), Bishop Carlos Matsinhe, has guaranteed that all the logistical conditions are in place for holding the municipal elections scheduled for 11 October.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wednesday in Maputo\u2019s Heroes\u2019 Square, at a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the General Peace Agreement between the government and the former rebel movement, Renamo, on 4 October 1992, Matsinhe said that security will be guaranteed throughout the country, especially in areas where elections are contentious.<\/p>\n

According to the CNE, there are 26 political parties, coalitions and citizens\u2019 groups that will take part in the elections to be held in 65 municipalities across the country. Over eight million voters have registered for this election.<\/p>\n

Regarding the northern province of Cabo Delgado, which has been plagued by islamist terrorism since 2017, the CNE chairperson said that security conditions have been created and the situation is under control.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the municipal districts there are security conditions in place. Everything has been secured so that there will be peaceful elections\u201d, he claimed.<\/p>\n

The electoral material to be used, budgeted at over six billion meticais (93.3 million dollars, at the current exchange rate), was produced in South Africa and China.<\/p>\n

The material includes voting booths, ballot papers, notices for the partial tabulation of results, among other essential items.<\/p>\n
