Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The district of Nacala Porto, in Nampula province, intends to start exporting tuna in the near future as a way of boosting its position in the value chain.<\/p>\n

The administrator Etelvina Fevereiro is quoted by \u2018Noticias\u2019 as noting that the district produces an average of 2,800 tons of fish per year, of which 15 tons are white tuna, internal consumption of which is below the catching capacity.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this reason, government authorities in that part of the country are creating conditions to export this species of fish,\u201d Noticias reports.<\/p>\n

The region recently hosted a tuna festival, with the aim of raising awareness locally, especially given the quality of the fish, which are abundant in Nacala Bay.<\/p>\n

Fevereiro stated that those who know marine products well classify white tuna as being of good quality. However, consumption levels at local level are considered low, ostensibly as a result of poor publicity.<\/p>\n

It was from this perspective that the district government decided to establish the tuna festival, with the aim of informing national and foreign consumers of the species\u2019 nutritional value.<\/p>\n

The experience will help the Nacala region to promote its gastronomy and boost tourism.<\/p>\n

The aim of the initiative is to make the country and the world aware of Nacala\u2019s unexplored potential.<\/p>\n

Etelvina Fevereiro invited national and foreign businesspeople to set up industrial units in the region to process and export tuna, which will contribute to the creation of more jobs, especially for youth.<\/p>\n

She mentioned that there are some entrepreneurs in the tuna market, but mainly only for meeting local demand. The managers of the fishing company in response promised to increase the quantities processed and place them on the domestic and foreign markets.<\/p>\n
