Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Vilankulo began demonstrating in front of the building where the District Elections Commission was based at around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, demanding access to the room where the voting results were being tabulated, in order to monitor the process.<\/p>\n

According to \u2018O Pai\u0301s\u2019, the protesters said they did not trust the body, since, in the early hours of Thursday morning, information was circulating that Renamo had won, while, later that morning, information showed that, in fact, Frelimo had won.<\/p>\n

Despite negotiations, unrest persisted and the police Rapid Intervention Unit was called, who, when they arrived, began firing tear gas in order to drive the protesters from the area.<\/p>\n

Inhambane Police Spokesperson Ne\u0301rcia Bata said that no-one was injured or detained and the situation was already under control.<\/p>\n
