Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The attempted snatching of a credit card at an ATM in the city of Quelimane led to the arrest of an individual found to be in possession of 19 ATM cards.<\/p>\n

The young man was arrested while trying to swindle a lady who had asked him for help at an ATM. The lady became suspicious, while police in the vicinity at the same time decided to intervene.<\/p>\n

The detainee\u2019s accomplices were waiting in a car and immediately fled the scene, the police say.<\/p>\n

Police say the citizen is a member of a gang operating in the centre of the country. \u201cThey act mostly in Mocuba and Alto Molocue districts, but they also operate partially in Nampula province, Manica province and Beira city,\u201d a police spokesman told TVM.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an extremely cunning group and the 19 cards that were found in this individual\u2019s possession could be a small number, taking into account the other cards probably in the vehicle (that escaped).\u201d<\/p>\n

In the last two years, three groups of criminals involved in fraud at ATMs in Zambezia have been neutralised.<\/p>\n
