Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican Women\u2019s Organization (OMM), Frelimo \u2018women\u2019s wing\u2019, launched an appeal on Wednesday (18-10) for the gains of democracy not to be destroyed, and the country dragged into violence and destabilisation.<\/p>\n

An OMM press release (original text, in Portuguese, in Portuguese below) says that, \u201cas mothers\u201d, the group repudiates all demonstrations that bear the stamp of political hatred, and any attacks on sovereignty, public institutions or assets and historical-national symbols.<\/p>\n

Addressing the scenario of post-electoral unrest, the OMM calls for adherence to constitutional means and the democratic rule of law in presenting complaints about the electoral process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe maintenance of tranquillity, calm and serenity, awaiting the validation and proclamation of the definitive final results, is vital, as Frelimo will respect the decisions taken by the courts in the face of the contestation of the local elections,\u201d reads the note, quoting Frelimo secretary general Roque Silva Samuel.<\/p>\n

The OMM asks young people, men and women, to abstain from violence, focusing on peaceful speeches, social cohesion and the promotion of Mozambican values. The exhortation is extended equally to everyone, to play their role in valuing the potential of young people in building a peaceful, cohesive and safe society.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs mothers, we ask all Mozambicans to strive for respect for the common good, safeguarding morals, sovereignty and equality.\u201d<\/p>\n
