Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Samora Machel Junior (\u201cSamito\u201d), son of Mozambique\u2019s first President, Samora Machel, has said he is \u201cdetermined to contribute to the consolidation of the rule of law in Mozambique\u201d, after the Mozambican Police (PRM) threatened to sue him for alleged defamation.<\/p>\n

The PRM accused Machel, who is a member of the Central Committee of the ruling Frelimo Party, of alleged defamation after he wrote an open letter last week condemning the killing of four individuals by police officers in Chiu\u0301re district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, in the context of protests (all over the country) carried out by the largest opposition party, Renamo, against alleged fraud in the municipal elections held on 11 October.<\/p>\n

The Police only admits to shooting dead one 19 year old man.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a citizen with a human conscience\u201d, Machel replied, in his second letter, published on Tuesday by the independent newssheet \u201cCarta de Mocambique\u201d, I want to assure you that the important thing about my previous position is not the numbers, but the facts and concerns that guided the ideals of the liberation and independence struggle, and which are reflected in the legacy of our national heroes and veterans in the national liberation struggle\u201d.<\/p>\n

Machel added that \u201cby defending the pillars that were the principles which determined the National Liberation Struggle, I will continue, tirelessly, to fight for Mozambique to be the nation we all long for, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or political party.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that we will continue along these lines of clarifying cases for the good of the Mozambican nation. I am firm, serene and, above all, determined, to make my contribution for the good of the nation, which as a citizen and senior member of the Frelimo Party I must make, for the consolidation of the democratic rule of law\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWill our institutions be more agile in trying to hold a simple messenger accountable, or will they (as is to be hoped) be more agile in what really matters with their action, such as shedding light on the scourge of kidnappings, organized crime, and the loss of human life, whether in the context of my previous post, or in other contexts\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

Machel also claimed that his duty as a citizen in a prominent position is to listen, console and advise.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen my sources share information, they don\u2019t expect me to denounce, but rather to take firm action to ensure that these events don\u2019t happen again. A single life lost to a bullet should be cause enough for concern\u201d, he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are the facts that deserve to be investigated so that those responsible are held to account\u201d, Machel added.<\/p>\n

Machel noted that \u201cI have been a member of the Frelimo party working for its brigade in the province of Cabo Delgado, for more than 10 years. As a result of my role, I constantly receive information from the province. Some of the information is of regret, some is asking for help, and some is of weeping and despair, like what happened in Chiu\u0301re.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sou membro do partido Frelimo militando na provi\u0301ncia de Cabo Delgado, pela respectiva brigada, ha\u0301 mais de 10 anos. Por conta dessa minha func\u0327a\u0303o, criei afectos e recebo constantemente informac\u0327a\u0303o da provi\u0301ncia. Alguma informac\u0327a\u0303o e\u0301 de lamento, outra e\u0301 a pedir ajuda, e outra ainda e\u0301 de choro e desespero, como foi o acontecido em Chiu\u0301re.<\/p>\n

O meu dever como cidada\u0303o, em posic\u0327a\u0303o de destaque, e\u0301 ouvir, consolar e aconselhar. As minhas fontes, quando partilham informac\u0327a\u0303o, na\u0303o esperam de mim denu\u0301ncias, mas sim, acc\u0327a\u0303o firme para que estes factos na\u0303o voltem a acontecer.<\/p>\n

Assim, na minha condic\u0327a\u0303o de cidada\u0303o e conscie\u0302ncia humana, quero assegurar que o importante do meu posicionamento anterior na\u0303o sa\u0303o os nu\u0301meros, mas sim os factos e preocupac\u0327o\u0303es que nortearam os ideais da luta de libertac\u0327a\u0303o e independe\u0302ncia, e que se reve\u0302em no legado dos nossos hero\u0301is nacionais e antigos combatentes da luta e libertac\u0327a\u0303o nacional.<\/p>\n

Sa\u0303o os factos que merecem apuramento, investigac\u0327a\u0303o e responsabilizac\u0327a\u0303o. A prioridade desse apuramento, investigac\u0327a\u0303o e responsabilizac\u0327a\u0303o e\u0301 pelas vidas humanas, e na\u0303o pelas pelas palavras de quem procura alertar para a falta de justic\u0327a diante da perda de vidas humanas. Uma u\u0301nica vida perdida por uma bala deve ser motivo bastante de preocupac\u0327a\u0303o. Pior quando essa vida e\u0301 um menor, que a fami\u0301lia o criava com amor e esperanc\u0327a no seu futuro.<\/p>\n

Com este episo\u0301dio, estamos perante uma lic\u0327a\u0303o valiosa para a nossa democracia, cujo desfecho sera\u0301 revelado futuramente. Sera\u0303o as nossas instituic\u0327o\u0303es mais a\u0301geis a procurar responsabilizar um simples mensageiro, ou ira\u0303o (como se espera), ser mais a\u0301geis no que realmente importa com a sua acc\u0327a\u0303o, seja no esclarecimento do flagelo dos raptos, do crime organizado e instalado, das perdas de vidas humanas, seja no contexto do meu posicionamento anterior, seja noutros contextos.<\/p>\n

Sau\u0301do a celeridade, e auguro que continuemos nesta linha de esclarecimento de casos para o bem da Nac\u0327a\u0303o Moc\u0327ambicana. Estou firme, sereno e, acima de tudo, determinado, para dar o meu contributo para o bem da Nac\u0327a\u0303o, que como cidada\u0303o e membro se\u0301nior do Partido Frelimo devo dar, para a consolidac\u0327a\u0303o do Estado de Direito democra\u0301tico.<\/p>\n

Pela defesa dos pilares que foram os princi\u0301pios que determinaram a Luta de Libertac\u0327a\u0303o Nacional, continuarei, incansavelmente, a lutar para que Moc\u0327ambique seja a nac\u0327a\u0303o que todos almejamos, independentemente da rac\u0327a, etnia, religia\u0303o, ou cor partida\u0301ria.<\/p>\n
