Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Riots have been recorded in Nampula city in response to the electoral results presented yesterday by the National Elections Commission, with our team in the city reporting people gathering and burning tires, with stores and public institutions closed.<\/p>\n

Primary and secondary schools in the city centre have suspended classes, and police are circulating along the main roads, extinguishing the burning tires, and having banned the sale of used tires.<\/p>\n

Security has been reinforced around the residence of the Governor of Nampula, and commerce is practically at a standstill.<\/p>\n

The victory of Frelimo in the so-called \u201cCapital of the North\u201d would make Lui\u0301s Giquira next mayor there, a fact contested by Renamo members and supporters, who swear that victory is theirs and they will not give up power.<\/p>\n

In Nacala Porto, according to a statement issued by Renamo at local level this morning, stones were thrown at vehicles, along with the burning of tires and breaking of windows during the proclamation of the results by the National Elections Commission.<\/p>\n

In the note, Renamo says that some of those involved in these skirmishes are opportunists and not supporters of the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was also damage to property of Renamo leaders, for example, the tires of Nacala District Political Delegate Rassi Dau\u0301do\u2019s car were let down,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
