Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s National Institute of the Sea (INAMAR) says it will not tolerate violation of the bans on catching surface shrimp and mangrove crab, both of which came into force in November.<\/p>\n

INAMAR announced on Friday that the ban on catching surface shrimp runs for four months, from 15th November to March 14th 2024, while the one on mangrove crabs runs for two months, from November 1st to December 31st.<\/p>\n

The establishment of these prohibition periods was decreed for industrial, semi-industrial and artisanal fishing, with the purpose of guaranteeing the reproduction and growth of species whose abundance in territorial waters requires sustainable management.<\/p>\n

According to the Director of the Maritime Inspection Division at INAMAR, Ce\u0301sar Maphosa, the reinforcement of the necessary inspection means that the closed season for these species is currently in force.<\/p>\n

Ce\u0301sar Maphosa also said that awareness-raising activities regarding good fishing practices were underway among operators.<\/p>\n
