Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Three more people have died from cholera in Tete in the last two weeks. The consumption of unsafe water is identified as the cause of the outbreak.<\/p>\n

It has been approximately 15 days since health authorities in Tete announced the cholera outbreak in the districts of Macanga and Moatize, with two deaths recorded. Two weeks later, the death toll has risen to five, with a cumulative 418 cases of the disease.<\/p>\n

The fact was confirmed this Monday by Provincial Chief Doctor of Tete, Xarifo Gentivo, who said that the deaths were registered in the Zumbo district, and that 22 people were hospitalised and receiving treatment at the Zumbo Health Centre.<\/p>\n

Gentivo also announced that at least 30 patients were being admitted to the health centre with diarrhoea and vomiting every day.<\/p>\n

According to our interviewee, the consumption of unsafe water, combined with poor personal hygiene, was the cause of the disease.<\/p>\n

Currently, the districts affected by cholera in Tete are Moatize, Macanga and Zumbo.<\/p>\n
