Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, on Monday received in audience the Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dardeep Puri, with whom he discussed other areas for cooperation, such as agriculture and transport and communications.<\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting and in statements to the press, the Indian leader called President Nyusi \u201ca person with vision and who thinks big\u201d, when mentioning other areas with potential for Indian investment and with gains for the country, both in terms of job creation and development input.<\/p>\n

In the field of transport and communications, for example, it was seen as opportune to invest in rolling stock for the railways, while in agriculture, the two leaders discussed the issue of production not only for the local market, but also for export to the regional or Indian market.<\/p>\n

In addition to these areas, it was concluded that there are many others that can be explored for common benefit, including biofuels. In this regard, the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India, as part of his visit to the country, spoke with the Mozambican ministers of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, and of Economy and Finance, Ernesto Max Tonela.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the sidelines of the G20 Summit, the Global Biofuel Alliance was created, with India, Brazil and the United States of America the founding countries, but there are also 21 other countries. And I invited Mozambique to join these countries so we can make a difference. Therefore, there is much more we can do in terms of bilateral cooperation,\u201d the Indian minister said.<\/p>\n

In terms of welcoming bilateral cooperation, Dardeep Puri considers relations between Mozambique and India to be excellent, remembering that these links date back more than 700 years, marked by the first arrivals of Indian citizens in Mozambique. However, he emphasises that independent links between the two peoples emerged more than 100 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very lucky that His Excellency the President of the Republic [Filipe Nyusi] and the Prime Minister of India [Narendra Modi] have a very friendly relationship, a very great personal relationship. Recently, they had a meeting on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa. They had a bilateral meeting where the Prime Minister extended an invitation to the President of the Republic to visit India on the occasion of what is called the Vibrant Gujarat [Global] Summit,\u201d said the minister, referring to the event, scheduled for January 2024, that will bring together business people and politicians from several countries around the world,<\/p>\n

In terms of trade relations, Mozambique and India have a volume of up to US$5 billion, and, according to the Indian minister, there is room to do much more. As for Indian investment in the energy sector, for example, the figures indicate a total of more than US$11 billion.<\/p>\n
