Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) on Tuesday detained a 38-year-old individual, in the southern city of Matola, who was caught red-handed in the possession of 3.3 kilos of hashish.<\/p>\n

According to the SERNIC spokesperson in Matola, Henriques Mendes, the individual (whose name was not revealed) was caught by the police on the street with a substance which, after examination, was found to be hashish.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 38-year-old national was carrying 3 kilos and 300 grams of hashish disguised as chocolate bars\u201d, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

He also said that this was the first time that the police had recorded hashish trafficking this year in that part of the country. However, unspecified quantities of other illicit substances had already been seized.<\/p>\n

Mendes also said that the accused had named other people involved and actions are being carried out to ascertain the veracity of the facts and to identify such people so that they could be held responsible, when their involvement is proven.<\/p>\n

The suspect admitted that he was in possession of the drug, but said he did not know it was hashish, as he thought it was chocolate, \u201cas the (unnamed) owner said.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u2018chocolate bars\u2019 were to be sold for 20,000 Euros and the accused would take 10 per cent for his role as a middleman.<\/p>\n
