Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Anglican Church in Mozambique will on Tuesday analyse the \u201cdemand\u201d for \u201cthe immediate resignation\u201d of Bishop Carlos Matsinhe, who is also president of the National Elections Commission (CNE), according to the call [dated Thursday, 9 November] to which Lusa had access on Monday.<\/p>\n

The demand for Carlos Matsinhe\u2019s removal from the position of Bishop was made in a letter by Bishops of the Anglican Church of Mozambique and Angola (IAMA) \u2013 an entity that covers \u201cthe ecclesiastical province\u201d of believers in these two countries \u2013 reads the call, made by Bishop Carlos Sima\u0303o Matsinhe himself and signed by the diocesan administrator of the Anglican Church in Mozambique, Elvis Lucas Gumete. Carlos Matsinhe is president of the National Elections Commission (CNE) of Mozambique and several entities have already demanded his resignation from this post, in the context of the opposition and various institutions contesting the electoral results announced by that electoral body.<\/p>\n

The CNE announced the victory of the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), the party in power, in 64 of the 65 municipalities, with the exception of the city of Beira.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo), the main opposition party, which in the previous 53 municipalities (12 new municipalities were created this year) led in eight, was left without any municipality, despite claiming victory in the country\u2019s largest cities, based on the minutes and original notices from polling stations, having appealed to the CC, the last instance of appeal in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

Some district courts even recognized irregularities in the electoral process and ordered the repetition of several electoral acts, while street demonstrations contesting the announced results are regularly held, which have yet to be confirmed by the CC.<\/p>\n
