Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The contingency plan for Maputo city, in the current rainy season is budgeted at over 71 million meticais (about 1.1 million dollars at the current exchange rate).<\/p>\n

According to the spokesperson for the Maputo City Council, Alice de Abreu, speaking on Friday, on the sidelines of a celebration marking the 136th anniversary of Maputo\u2019s elevation to the status of a city, UN-Women and the World Bank have already expressed their willingness to provide financial support for the plan\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n

The interventions, she said, began before the start of the rainy season in October. The rainy season ends in March 2024.<\/p>\n

The government has not yet approved the National Contingency Plan, a vital document for preventing and mitigating the impact of extreme events, but initial calculations suggest that it should cost around 203 million dollars.<\/p>\n

With regard to transport, one of the most challenging sectors in the city, Abreu claimed there will be a solution within the next 60 days, as the implementation of the urban mobility project is underway.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe city will benefit from the project called Move Maputo, which is under the purview of the government, and with this project we will have taken some care over the issue of access roads and transportation in the city\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

De Abreu said that at least 17 kilometres of roads will be rehabilitated and paved in Maputo and the neighbouring city of Matola, as part of the project to improve urban mobility in the Greater Maputo metropolitan region.<\/p>\n
