Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A post on the \u2018Anglican Ink\u2019 blog claims that the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, Bishop Anthony Poggo, urged the bishops of the Igreja Anglicana de Moc\u0327ambique e Angola to elect the Bishop of Nampula, the Right Revd Manuel Ernesto, as the next Primate of the Anglican Church in Mozambique and Angola.<\/p>\n

Like many posts on the \u2018Anglican Ink\u2019 blog about the Anglican Communion, the claim is false. The 42 Member Churches of the Anglican Communion are autonomous and independent-yet-interdependent. The Anglican Communion Office and the Secretary General have no input in the election and selection of primates or other bishops and we do not seek to intervene.<\/p>\n

The Secretary General and part of his staff team were in Maputo in August at the invitation of the primate, Archbishop Carlos Matsinhe, and the Council of Anglican Provinces in Africa (CAPA) to help deliver a training and induction programme for new bishops from 22 dioceses in 11 countries.\u201d<\/p>\n
