Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Swiss Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) foundation announced on Monday that it will, with funding from the Government of Norway, rehabilitate Quelimane Central Market, in Zambe\u0301zia province, following the fire it suffered in August.<\/p>\n

In a press release cited by Lusa, GAIN states that the market, afflicted by a major fire that on August 1st destroyed 533 stalls, will be rehabilitated and requalified over 12 months, within the scope of a project financed by the Government of Kingdom of Norway.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the work, the project will contribute to access to safe and nutritious food, in a more resilient, safe, sustainable and requalified market,\u201d the text states.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the fire, GAIN assessed the market\u2019s needs\u201d and \u201csupport areas were identified, not only in the reconstruction of the market, but also in its requalification, with greater emphasis on the area designated for the sale of food,\u201d it continues.<\/p>\n

In turn, the director of GAIN in Mozambique, Gaspar Cuambe, stated that the destruction of the market had increased the challenges faced by local residents in accessing safe, nutritious food, as well as increasing potential sources of contamination and other risks to consumers.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Quelimane, Manuel de Arau\u0301jo, expressed satisfaction with the creation of conditions for the start of works, praising the readiness and flexibility demonstrated by GAIN and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway.<\/p>\n
