Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Filipe Jacinto Nyusi Airport in Chongoene has not yet started to generate satisfactory revenue, according to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mozambique Airports. But, Ame\u0301rico Muchanga explains, the infrastructure is still growing.<\/p>\n

Filipe Jacinto Nyusi Airport is indeed yet to see any Maputo-Chongoene flights, but this will reportedly change from December onwards.<\/p>\n

Asked about the profitability of the infrastructure, inaugurated almost two years ago, Muchanga said that it takes time for an airport to grow.<\/p>\n

\u201cChongoene Airport is in a state of infancy. Any airport infrastructure that is placed on a large site needs time to grow, but, above all, it is necessary to create conditions so that the entire population living in Gaza and in the vicinity of Chongoene Airport can use it as the place from which to catch the plane for their trips,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The airport opened in November of 2021, construction having begun in 2018.<\/p>\n

The possibility of Mozambican miners working in South Africa returning home via Chongoene Airport is being discussed, Muchanga said.<\/p>\n

The chairman of Aeroportos de Moc\u0327ambique also mentions the dynamic that Linhas Ae\u0301reas de Moc\u0327ambique (LAM) has been creating in recent months, allowing more Mozambicans to use air transport, as having a positive impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the national case, LAM, being an operator that goes to all airports in Mozambique, its growth clearly has an impact. But above all because its growth means that there are more and more Mozambicans who use air flight as a means of transport. So the effort that LAM is making, to make the civil aviation service more accessible to citizens, is tremendous. It\u2019s an effort we should all be proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n

A LAM source told \u2018O Pai\u0301s\u2019 that flights to and from Xai-Xai (Chongoene) will only resume in December.<\/p>\n
