Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, has addressed a message of congratulations to Reverend Giorgio Ferrettii, parish priest of the Catedral Metropolitana de Nossa Senhora da Conceic\u0327a\u0303o in Maputo, and was on November 18th appointed by Pope Francis as the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Diocese of Foggia-Bovino, in Italy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe charisma, the close language and the exciting way of encouragement, allowed the believers, particularly young people, to have a unique experience of how to use faith to strengthen bonds with the community, being inspired by God\u2019s love for his children,\u201d part of the President\u2019s message reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis appointment to such a high position in the Catholic Church is recognition of his unique qualities, which we witnessed as parish priest of Maputo Cathedral. It is gratifying for Mozambique to lose its priest to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Foggia-Bovino,\u201d the head of state continues.<\/p>\n

Further, he highlights that: \u201cWe are certain that his human and social personality, as a theologian, academic and member of the Missionary Fraternity of Sant\u2019Egidio, were decisive in deserving the distinction and the choice of His Holiness Pope Francis to head the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Foggia-Bovino. We pray to God and the Holy Spirit to give him good health, anointing and wisdom so that, in respect for his faith and his vocation, he continues to spread the Gospel and love, wherever he is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Msgr. Giorgio Ferretti was born in Genoa, in the archdiocese of the same name, on 27 November 1967. He graduated in philosophy from the University of Genoa, and after some experience as a religion teacher in Genoa, he was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Urbanian University of Rome.<\/p>\n

He was ordained a priest on 6 November 2004 for the diocese of Frosinone-Veroli-Ferentino, and is a member of the Missionary Priestly Fraternity of Sant\u2019Egidio.<\/p>\n

He has held the following offices: pastoral collaborator in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere in Rome (2004-2008); head of relations with South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana for the Sant\u2019Egidio Community (since 2005); special secretary to the bishop of Frosinone-Veroli-Ferentino (2008-2016); director of the Office for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue of the same diocese and member of the diocesan Pastoral Council (2009-2016); assistant to the Association of Catholic Physicians of the province of Frosinone (2010-2016); assistant to the Association of Scouts of Europe (2012-2016); member of the Ethical Committee of the Frosinone Health Authority (2013-2015); priest in solidum of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, Ss. Annunziata and San Benedetto in Frosinone (2013-2016); and head of the diocesan soup kitchen for the poor (2014-2016).<\/p>\n

Since 2017 he has been a fidei donum priest in the archdiocese of Maputo, in the Republic of Mozambique, parish priest of the Catedral Metropolitana de Nossa Senhora da Conceic\u0327a\u0303o and member of the Presbyteral Council.<\/p>\n
