Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>According to official estimates, at least 48,000 people died from HIV\/AIDS in Mozambique in 2022, and a further 97,000 were infected with the disease. Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, said that around two million people with HIV\/AIDS are in antiretroviral treatment for a disease that mainly affects women between 15 and 29 years old.<\/p>\n

Mozambique celebrates World AIDS Day under the motto \u201cCommunity and Civil Society at the Vanguard of the Response to HIV\/AIDS\u201d. Despite advances in the fight against the AIDS virus, the country still records a sero-prevalence rate of 12.5%.<\/p>\n

The Executive Secretary of the National Council to Combat AIDS, Francisco Mbofana, said that last year 2.4 million people were living with the disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2022, 2.4 million Mozambicans were living with HIV-AIDS and, of these, 98% are adults. Also last year, we registered 97,000 new infections and 48,000 deaths,\u201d he detailed.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Health, around two million people with HIV\/AIDS are on antiretroviral treatment, a disease that mainly affects women between 15 and 29 years old.<\/p>\n

Of the total number of people infected in Mozambique, by September, 2023, at least 88% knew their status, compared to 36% in the same period in 2010, he added.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican Minister of Health said this Friday that, due to the provision of antiretroviral treatment, the country managed to avoid the deaths of around one million people, and vertical transmission of the disease in 330,000 children.<\/p>\n

Armindo Tiago said that the numbers resulted from the expansion of antiretroviral treatment services in 96% of health units in Mozambique, in addition to the work carried out by communities, civil society and health professionals, among others.<\/p>\n

In Mozambique, the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Zambe\u0301zia have the highest number of cases of the disease.<\/p>\n
