Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Amilton Alissone on Monday opened in Boane district the first air quality data collection station, an infrastructure designed to make it possible to record the level of air pollution and minimise its impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis equipment will provide us, in real time, with data on the concentrations of various pollutants, such as particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone and sulphur dioxide, including noise pollution, information that is fundamental to make informed decisions to mitigate the impact of pollution on our communities,\u201d Alissone said after inaugurating the station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fight against climate change and environmental degradation begins with an accurate understanding of the challenges we face. The equipment whose installation we highlight today is an essential tool for building a society informed about air pollution in the Maputo metropolitan area,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

A total of ten stations will be set up in Maputo, Matola, Boane and Marracuene municipalities, with the provinces of Sofala, Tete and Nampula to follow. \u201cThen, the remaining provinces in the country will follow, as we live in a context where preserving the environment is at the top of agenda of all the countries in the world, and Mozambique is no exception,\u201d Alissone said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recognize the impact of this project in promoting environmental awareness and responsibility. By making data about the quality of the air we breathe public, we empower citizens and communities to actively engage in efforts to reduce environmental pollution,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Also this Monday, Deputy Minister Alissones launched a programme to help transporters and managers improve urban mobility.<\/p>\n
