Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Javier Tebas has been elected for a fourth term as the President of the Spanish Football League La Liga after running unopposed.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa Liga has agreed the definitive proclamation of Javier Tebas as the President of the National League of Professional Football, for a four-year period,\u201d confirmed the league in a communique.<\/p>\n

Tebas announced his intention to run for a fourth term when he stepped down from his post on November 22, a month before the election was due to have been held.<\/p>\n

He became La Liga President in 2013 and has worked to modernize the Spanish competition, working hard on increasing earnings through TV rights and also by expanding the La Liga brand around the world.<\/p>\n

However, he has also been a controversial figure, with Real Madrid especially unhappy at the tight control La Liga holds over TV rights, which the club would rather exploit itself.<\/p>\n

Tebas has been a vocal opponent of the Superleague, which has Real Madrid President Florentino Perez as one of its main cheerleaders, while many argue that the strict wage ceilings La Liga has imposed on clubs has led to the Spanish league to become less competitive in past two or three seasons.<\/p>\n
