Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican Foreign Minister Vero\u0301nica Macamo argues on Wednesday that economic diplomacy should be the main focus of Mozambique\u2019s Honorary Consuls abroad, where they play an important role in representing, promoting and defending State interests.<\/p>\n

The Minister was speaking at the opening of a Seminar of Honorary Consuls of Mozambique, a two day event taking place in Maputo, attended by most of Mozambique\u2019s 29 Honorary Consuls abroad.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want your work to take into account that economic diplomacy should be the main focus\u201d, the minister said, arguing that economic diplomacy opens space for the generation of more jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people should not finish their training and be left without a job where they can put into practice what they have learned and thus make their contribution to national life and their personal lives\u201d, she said, urging the diplomats to try mobilizing more investment and more jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are counting on your support\u201d, she stressed.<\/p>\n

Another challenge she issued to the Honorary Consuls concerned the need for regular accountability, considering that \u201cit is a determining element for the success of your mission.\u201d<\/p>\n

Macamo also reviewed the latest developments in Mozambique\u2019s socio-economic and political life since the last Seminar held in 2018.<\/p>\n

She highlighted the economic growth that is taking place after a period of stagnation due to various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the improvement in security in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, which has been plagued by terrorism since 2017, the process of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of the former guerrillas of Renamo, the largest opposition party, and the municipal elections held on 11 October 11.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the country is continuing to consolidate its institutions and the democratic process; to promote peace and dialogue to solve its problems; to consolidate its economy; and to strengthen its foreign policy, with the aim of making more friends and partnerships.<\/p>\n
